Using LabConnect

How to use the new CAEDM LabConnect to access software remotely

LabConnect helps you connect to College of Engineering remote computing resources. Recently the College of Engineering Computing department has updated the LabConnect utility. Here are instructions on how to use the new utility:

1. In a web browser window or tab go to:

connect.et.byu.edu

You will be asked to login. Login with your CAEDM credentials.

2. You will then see a page with the different computer pools available. Select the appropriate pool.

MFGEN students should choose the MFG SOT ID pool or the CAEDMLabs pool.

3. Once you have selected the appropriate pool, the lab connect service will try and automatically connect you to an available system in the pool.

(If you want to manually select a specific available system/host, then before you select a specific pool, toggle on the toggle switch in the upper right of the pools page previously shown. Then once you select the pool you will be given a list of systems to choose from that are available in the pool. If you do not see the system/host you specifically want then it is in use by someone else or is otherwise unavailable.)

4. As it tries to connect you to a system, you should next see something similar to this:

If you have not used the this new labconnect before and have not yet installed the new LabConnect Utility software (CAEDMConnectWinstaller.exe for Windows), click on the "here" link as shown in the image above, and install the software, then return to this page.

5. Once the software is installed and you have returned to this page, or have installed the software previously, select the "Open launch-rdp-session.exe button as shown in the image above in step 4.

Doing so will open a remote desktop session on your computer. (On Windows computers the remote desktop software that will be used is already installed). The name of the computer you choose earlier will be automatically placed in the Remote computer field as shown below. Click the Connect button.
