Instructions and Suggestions for Obtaining and Installing SolidWorks Student Edition

To request a license of the current SolidWorks Student Edition please visit swstudentedition.byu.edu and login with your BYU credentials. If you are a student within the BYU College of Engineering and are currently registered for a class you can obtain a license through the site mentioned. Instructions will be given at the site on how to register the software and download a copy of the installer. (Please note that the student edition is NOT for research projects. Those needing SolidWorks for a research project need to contact their department IT support team.)

Please note that SolidWorks only runs in the Microsoft Windows OS.

After downloading the installer, run Setup.exe.

When asked, enter the serial number you received when requesting your license.

Click on the "Change" link in the products section. then uncheck any module of SolidWorks you do not need. Some of these modules like the electrical module are rather large and/or install extra database software. If you are just doing CAD modeling, we would recommend unchecking most of the options.

Once you have unchecked the appropriate modules, select the "Back to Summary" button in the lower right corner.

If you are installing this for the first time, you can most likely leave the other options in their default state.

Then select the checkbox to accept the license and then click the "Install Now" button.
