Dr. Tracy Nelson is a Professor of Manufacturing Engineering, specializing in metal materials and joining. He received his Ph.D. in Welding and Materials Engineering from The Ohio State University. Prior to joining BYU, he worked as a research assistant at Edison Welding Institute from 1989 to 1993 and as a materials engineering at Westinghouse-Power Generation from 1993-1994. Professor Nelson teaches Materials Science and Engineering, and Manufacturing Processes at the undergraduate level in addition to Physical Metallurgy and Fracture Mechanics at the graduate level. Professor Nelson’s research interests are in the area of materials joining, materials characterization, and the relationships between microstructure and mechanical properties.
